18610 Arthurdent is a small main belt asteroid, discovered by Felix Hormuth on 7 February 1998. It is named after Arthur Dent, from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

It is the location of an unnamed Belter-run establishment that is roughly equivalent to a 'Daneside truck stop/flop house. Among the services available to a space traveler are an inexpensive no-frills "motel", showers,[1] a diner, a small fuel depot[2]/general store, several public-access Interwave terminals, and a small team of mechanics and techs. The staff also provides informal "ride-matching" services, helping connect itinerant travelers and "hitchhikers" with willing rides heading in the right direction. Arthurdent is also the location of one of the smaller Interwave nodes serving the Belt.

Notes

  1. Without towels - visitors are expected to bring their own.
  2. One of the few independent fuel depots in space, not affiliated with StelOil or any of the 'Danelaw multinationals.
