The Stellvia Annex[1] was launched in May 2009 as a relatively safe place for Kohran Li to carry out her experiments with high explosives and other highly-volatile substances. It was made from what would otherwise have been a discarded portion of one of the six Space Shuttle External Tanks that formed most of the original hull of the Stellvia station.[2]
The Annex was outfitted with a variant of the 'waved ion drive installed in the Epsilon Blade so that it could be moved away from inhabited areas during weapons testing. This, in hindsight, may have been a mistake; Kohran flew the entire Annex to the Island for the 2009 Fenspace Convention so that her then-current experiment wouldn't be interrupted. The experiment, now called The Kaboomite Incident, ended up being a success, if one ignores the trifling matter of a miscalculation during the design of the timing mechanism - the kaboomite device exploded earlier than expected, causing millions of dollars worth of property damage.[3] Ever since then, the Annex has been clearly marked as a potentially dangerous hazard.
Until 2018, the Annex could usually be found in orbit around Stellvia. It was sold to Kohran Li on January 1, 2018 for the nominal sum of one credit in order to ease the ship's renaming and transferal of registry; the ship has been re-christened Hana and has moved (with its owner) to Deimos.
Occasionally, it can be found outside the plane of the ecliptic, where few vessels travel; these times are when Kohran is experimenting something as dangerous as kaboomite. During the Boskone War, the Annex never traveled away from Stellvia without an armed escort. The day the PEPPER treaty came into effect, the Annex visited the White Tower, where all of the equipment for creating kaboomite was removed from the ship under the eyes of the Space Patrol and turned over to a waiting Great Justice engineering team.[4]
Notes
- ↑ Also called "The Best Birthday Present Ever!" by its owner or "that &*?!# navigation hazard" by most pilots in the Earth-Luna L5 zone
- ↑ The other five LOX tanks have been refurbished and dropped on various parts of Luna. Four serve as emergency habitats; the other was purchased by the Senshi and used as a "construction foreman's hut" during construction of the Moon Kingdom Memorial Outpost, then moved to Mare Marginis where it became the first permanent habitat at the Crystal Millennium shipyard.
- ↑ Luckily, the damage was confined to the farthest part of an impromptu parking area, beside what was clearly marked as a weapons test area; nobody was actually at their vehicles at the time of the explosion and there were no AIs built into the affected vehicles. Noah Scott settled the claims out-of-court.
- ↑ The space within the ship has since been filled with other engineering equipment.
