Jet as a character was never intended to be a fighter... but a person who was, quite literally, their own spacecraft. The original concept was the idea of being able to look upon the raw naked universe, unfiltered by a glass cocoon or video feed. Which is rather awesome. Couple that with a commentary on how biomods depend on the bemodded. It's just sort of how Jet worked out when writing her.

As a fighter, Jet is something of a Flying Glass Brick. She can hit hard, and seems impervious... right up until she takes a hit that damn near kills her. Individually, she's probably one of Fenspace strongest fighters, capable of taking just about anyone in a straight hand to hand fight. The flip side of this is.... the most dangerous opponent for her is ten ordinary troopers with automatic weapons, and a good supply of ammunition. And it's easier to get 10 more mooks, than it is to get another Jet.

Jet prefers people to use Male pronouns, but doesn't mind people doing otherwise, and doesn't argue the point. I don't in order to differentiate between pre and post-mod Jet, or to make it obvious when someone's actually done research on Jet. (Like Benjamin Rhodes in the Kentucky Cat story)

If anyone wants to write for Jet, you're welcome to.

What Jet can do (2014-2019):

    • In atmosphere, at Earth sea level, Jet can fly at 1400kph, for a duration limited only by her own comfort. Atmospheric heating starts to get hot.
    • Jet's minimum stall speed is about 200kph.
    • Jet has a glide ratio of about 2:1 (Half that of a Space Shuttle) Jet's wings really just stabilise her flight.
    • In Space, Jet can reach a speed of .175c, and hold it for about 4 days before her organic parts lose life support. In theory, Jet could just about make Pandora.
    • Can hover upright.... though it takes a great deal of care on her part.
    • Jet is vacuum tolerant... though direct exposure of her face to hard vacuum can get uncomfortable. It won’t kill her. She wears a pressure helmet for her own comfort only.
    • Jet can still get mentally tired after about 24 hours without sleep, or through intensive work... but can stay awake and functional for as long as her batteries last.
    • Can upend an average one-ton family car, and roll it over.
    • Can lift over 500kg above her head, provided it or the ground can hold up.
    • Has an onboard Radar with an effective range of about 100kM in atmosphere, and 'far enough to avoid things' in Space.
    • Has an FM radio receiver and transmitter.
    • Has a cellular phone connection, capable of making and receiving calls, and maintaining an interwave/3G connection/Fenspace compatible comm's
    • Has a GPS receiver.
    • Has a pair of USB 2.0 sockets, one in each ear.
    • Han receive AI databursts. They also give her stunning headaches.
    • Has onboard navigation software, for stellar navigation, which requires updating.
    • She sometimes roasts marshmellows using her engines.
    • Has about 64Gb worth of onboard storage, for videos, music or the like.
    • Can listen to or watch these, if not doing anything else.
    • Can fly with about 20 kilogrammes of load... provided it doesn't shift around, is properly balanced, and doesn't interfere with her.
    • Can install iPhone Apps and utilise them.
    • Can interface with smart-gun systems if it's designed right.
    • Can take and read notes on her iPhone. Requires some concentration on her part (As if she was making the notes manually)
    • Can access files stored on the iPhone.... but these also take time to comprehend and understand.
    • Can send email/text messages.
    • Can design and build 'stuff' reasonably competently.
    • Has enough of a homeostasis effect to counter aging, and the effects of vacuum.
    • Barring accident/violence, with proper maintenance and care Jet will live for ‘a long time’
    • Jet has Priss' distinctive slightly husky and hoarse voice, and can sing well enough to place in the Karaoke competition at Alphacon.
    • Jet and Ford have a number of ways of 'entertaining' each other. Jet's favourite involves turtle wax and a rotary polisher.

    • It took Jet a six months design and build the Mark-2 hardsuit in her spare time.
    • It took Jet six months to build the JF-21 series prototype.
    • It took Jet and Ford three months to build the Highway Star.
    • Jet quirks badly when using handwavium, tending towards something based off of Bubblegum Crisis, or similar 80's -style tech.
    • This is one of the reasons Jet won't attempt to wake an AI. She's afraid she may get a God-Delusioned Largo, or an unstable Boomer-type.
    • Jet can get good results specifically replicating items of Bubblegum Crisis technology.
    • Jet tends towards building things which are robust, have an excess of power at the expense of efficiency, and are a touch inelegant and simplistic.
    • Jet's intelligence is average for the Fen. Show her a problem and it'll take her about the same amount of time to work through it as J. Random Fen
    • Jet's hardware boosts her reaction times, physical dexterity and ability to unconsciously track things happening at high speed. It works on things she's learned and is familiar with, rather than things she has to focus on. It allows Jet to fly through crowded airspace at speed like a human would walk down a crowded street, while focusing either on coursework or a conversation with ATC.

What Jet can't/doesn't do:

    • Jet doesn't go to the bathroom.
    • Is technically sexless.
    • Has a severely limited sense of touch over her entire body. Jet can just about tell she’s being touched, and can feel extremes of heat and cold.
    • Jet’s metal parts retain temperatures. It takes time to heat up and cool down...
    • Does not seem to get drunk.
    • Cannot store her memories digitally, or copy her personality. Jet does not have perfect recall
    • Must maintain careful control of her strength, or she'll either injure someone, or damage something. If Jet's distracted or frustrated, accidents can happen.
    • Requires regular maintenance. Weekly, Monthly and Yearly schedules, along with running-time based for her engines. Most tech's familiar with her can do it. Jet prefers Ford Sierra to do most of her maintenance, but some requires more skill.
    • If injured/damaged, serious damage can only be repaired by someone intimately familiar with Jet, or the particular component. A snapped wing or a broken antenna can be handled by many, including Ford Sierra and Daisuke Edo. Replacing an engine, or deep internal work, requires far more skill and at least few day's work.
    • Does not float, and cannot operate her engines underwater. Jet will die if she falls into deep water. Shallow water is a long and muddy walk, provided she doesn’t get stuck.
    • Can be seriously injured by electricity, and electromagnetic effects.
    • Turbine Engines can be damaged by fine-grained sand/Foreign Objects.
    • Jet is still very mortal, and mostly organic inside. A hit that penetrates her armour is crippling. A lucky hit from even a pistol can kill her easily.
    • If Jet's computer electronics fail or are disabled, Jet will die after about five agonising minutes.
    • Jet's *self* exists only in her organic brain. There's a reason she wears a helmet
    • Jet will still be injured in a high-speed crash. She can go crunch quite happily.
    • Jet contaminates sensitive handwavium tasters, or handwavium-free environments. Not enough to be dangerous, just to be 'detectable'.
    • Her neck is unarmoured, and so is her head if she is not wearing a helmet.
    • Jet can’t use capacitive touchscreens
    • Her fingers are steel coated and a little broad. It's hard for her to do intricate work like electronics, or kit-building.
    • Jet’s feet are quite small, compared to her weight. She can get stuck in the mud.
    • Jet can get irradiated if caught outside of ship in a solar storm.

And some humour

Two gunshots rang inside the workshop, followed moments later by a strangely satisfied groan, and the whirr of an electric polisher winding down.

Ford Sierra stood in overalls with the polisher still spinning in her hands, a perplexed and surprised look on her face. Jet lay on the workbench, panting, chest half-coated in hazy turtle wax. The other half was buffed to a deep shine.

“You didn’t...” Sierra mumbled.

Jet smiled back at her almost shamefully, “Well...that’s a first”

A small whisp of blue oilsmoke rose guiltily up from one of her engines.

Sierra barked a laugh, “At least we can have fun like a normal couple for once...”

She grinned. The electric polisher began to wail once more.
