Located on the western end of Valles Marineris, Noctis Labyrinthus is a complex series of deeply incised canyons, forming a complicated and broken labyrinth of rock. Widely regarded as one of the more beautiful parts of Mars, Noctis is especially spectacular in the morning when the low sun shines down the length of the canyons and the green carbon dioxide frost begins to sublimate into a white mist that hugs the valley floor. Once the terraforming project is completed, Noctis will likely be above the snowline, with meltwater rivers running in the valley troughs.
Noctis Labyrinthus is home to the Panzer Kunst Gruppe at Grunthal, and Adeptus Mechanicus research temple of Syrinx. The Imperial Guard maintain a small garrison at nearby Nosuinus, so named due to them being the only faction ever outright sued by the original IP owner.
Grunthal is a small base, set into the canyon wall where two smaller canyons merge into one larger, giving a large open area on the canyon floor for sparring matches. The first Motorball track was built nearby, racing through narrower gullies and between ice-sheared boulders. Most days will see Kunstler out practicing in the open air, with the occasional tourist coming by to watch. The Engel Gruppe especially are known to train in high-speed low altitude canyon runs at speeds well into quadruple digits.
The Tech-Priests in the temple of Syrinx are slowly working to 'recover ancient Imperial Technology which hasn't actually been invented yet'. They have had some success replicated the Boltgun and Lasgun, though not in any consistent manner, and are notorious for ignoring anything not mentioned in official sourcebooks. They have a working arrangement with the Panzer Kunst whereby the Kunstler provide them with security, and they provide the Kunstler with specialised Damascus Blades.
- "Nearby" being relative - while New Adelaide is the closest settlement to Noctis Labyrinthus, it's still over 1000 km away.
